  1. I’d like to add, since you included Earthing and Essential Oils, Vibrational Medicine, The #1 Handbook of Subtle-Energy Therapies. More of a technical read, it includes scientific studies and a wide variety of subjects.

BTW, since reading Earthing, we use a grounded 1/2 sheet on our bed. We used it for a few weeks then removed it, went for a few days, then put it back. My personal anecdotal observation was needing less sleep when using it.

    • Thanks Yancey! Great to know and thanks for the book addition too! I was wondering how a grounding sheet would work out. Maybe there will be other benefits to follow also. Everyone, check out FansofEnergy.com because it’s a GREAT website! Honored to have you reading and commenting, Yancey! Love and Light, Alice

  2. Since the spiritual practice Mikao Usui founded traveled across the oceans many people have written books. Many people have changed the way his simple yet profound method was practiced, and many myths have been created.
While no one except the members knows what goes on inside the Usui Reiki Gakkai (society Mikao Usui created), we are all lucky that one member did published a factual and informative book. It was written in Japanese or course, but correctly translated, with his permission, into English in 2000. It is Lyahino Gendai Reiki-ho, written by Hiroshi Doi-Sensei.

    • Hi Roberta, Thank you for sharing the most “authentic” book on Usui Reiki, should readers like to explore the historical roots of the Usui method. What I love about Reiki is that at its core, it’s really very simple. Intention makes it work. The rest is there to help people feel comfortable using intention to direct the energy. So one can learn about the way it started, or one can learn the basics, and whichever path one chooses, the energy will work for him or her. Blessings in the light, Alice

Hi Alice, I am extremely interested in learning about reiki, but I’m a complete newcomer to the art of reiki– I wanted to ask you whether reiki could sufficiently be understood through books? Is it essential to train under somebody, or would studying a book do? (just to gain a beginners ground in the area)

    • Hi Avantika,

I am glad you asked! You can learn ABOUT Reiki from books. You can learn Reiki for yourself from a Reiki teacher – meaning someone who will attune you and support your confidence and success with your practicing. I have to say, I have done my personal best to write a book that gives a clear understanding of Reiki for newcomers and Reiki practitioners alike. If you’d like to have a look, here it is: http://practicalreiki.org and you can read the first couple chapters online now right here: http://reikiawakening.com/prforwardchap1.pdf Love and light, Alice

  4. Reiki – A Comprehensive Guide, by Pamela Miles, is one of the very best Reiki books out there, in my humble opinion.
    Lorna Cassano

    • Hi Lorna,

For Usui Reiki- based instruction, Pamela Miles’ book is one of the more recognized out there. My book, Practical Reiki, presents a different view of Reiki – simplified without symbols or hand positions, yet strong and effective. You might have a look and broaden your viewpoint. Please let me know if you do! Love and light, Alice

Frank Arjava Petter’s “The Original Reiki Handbook of Dr. Mikao Usui” (Lotus Press, 1998). I especially like the translation of the Heart Sutra he uses in his introductory material.
